Translation process
Translating
A text must be rendered from the source language into the target language in such a way that the target text corresponds in the best possible way with the content, intention and style of the source text and fulfils the rules and requirements of the target language.
In this regard, the following criteria among other things must be taken into account:
- Terminology:
The terminology to be used must be agreed upon with the customer.
If the customer does not have (a) terminology compilation(s), the general terminology of the specialist area in question must be used, whereby the terminological consistency in the entire text must be ensured.
- Grammar, syntax, sentence structures, orthography, punctuation
- Lexical consistency, phraseological correctness
- Stylistic requirements: correct application of the stylistic requirements of the customer and the company's own stylistic guidelines
- The conventions and standards to be taken into account
- Formatting
- Target group and text function of the translation
Check by the translator
The translator must check his translation for accuracy of the rendering and completeness and correct or complete it if necessary.
Proofreading
Translations are proofread in accordance with the criteria listed above by a different translator who also has a relevant qualification. The proofreader checks the accuracy of the translation, the completeness and the text function. In this regard, the proofreader attaches importance to the adherence to the uniform application of the terminology and the linguistic characteristics. We take into account the recommendations of the proofreader and initiate the appropriate corrective action.
Technical examination
As far as a technical examination has been agreed, we ensure that the translation is subjected to an examination in the target language by an expert of the field in question with regard to the suitability for the purpose of the translation and the adherence to the linguistic characteristics and technical conventions. We take into account the recommendations of the technical examiner and initiate all appropriate corrective action.
Correction of galley proofs
We ensure that the proof sheet is checked, as far as a correction of galley proofs was agreed.
Release
Prior to the release we check the fulfilment of the agreed service requirements.
Value-added services
These are services which a translation can require in addition, such as certification, transcription, transliteration, etc. We ensure that the agreed value-added services are rendered complying with standards.
